We are pleased to share some updates from the Bank of Bhutan.

With the Bank of Bhutans latest update, tourists visiting Bhutan no longer need a Bhutanese SIM card to register for goBoB. Instead, they can now conveniently sign-up using email-based OTP validation even before arriving in Bhutan given, they are a full SDF payer, removing a major barrier that previously limited access to digital payments for international visitors.

In addition, merchants across Bhutan can now accept payments from Indian tourists using BHIM UPI via the existing National QR code (QR code after 19th March, 2025). The transaction charges included to the customers are as follows:

Transactions below Nu. 2,000 will be charged at 0.9%
Transactions above Nu. 2,000 will be charged at 1.25%
